Last Chance: Salvage Swings has one week left in residence on Roosevelt Island. Winner of FIGMENT NYC 2019’s City of Dreams competition, the artwork remains until Friday, August 23rd.
Salvage Swings was designed by Somewhere Studio.
“It was an opportunity to address construction-waste management,” said Jessica Colangelo, a principal at Somewhere studio, in a DESIGNWIRE article. “Our form integrates play—and community.”
They got the idea after seeing scrapped pallets piled up near a University of Arkansas construction site.
FIGMENT NYC made Roosevelt Island home for the first time in 2019.
Exhibits filled Lighthouse Park where the East River separates into two channels. And the weather was perfect.
“The pavilion is constructed of 12 swing modules that frame the swinger and the swinger’s view,” FIGMENT’S organizers said when they announced the winner.
