MST&DA’s Musical Holiday 2019 comes into focus. “Looks like our Christmas Carol cast will be in costume caroling by the subway,” Main Street Theatre & Dance Alliance executive director Kristi Towey tells The Daily. Then, they gather at Rivercross, kicking off the 2019 Tree Lighting Festival with a couple of numbers.
Roosevelt Island welcomes the holiday season on December 6th with a Tree Lighting, but first, there’s some celebrating. RIOC promises community fun leading up to the event and Santa’s arrival.
This all fits with MST&DA’s seasonal musical. Performances of A Christmas Carol begin with a paid preview on the 13th. (Full schedule and tickets here.)
A Christmas Carol is the musical adaptation of Dickens’s short story. Scrooge learns life lessons from three ghosts who open his heart… and purse.
The show, with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, debuted at the Paramount Theatre in 1994. It repeated every year until 2003.
Now, MST&DA’s musical holiday for 2019 brings it home to Roosevelt Island.
Jacqueline Lucid directs while Justin Ramos takes charge of the music.
First, though, we get a free sample. At 6:00, before the Tree Lighting Ceremony starts, the cast greets folks at the subway with carols.
And, then, still in costume, they take the short walk up to Rivercross to warm up the night with songs from A Christmas Carol.
