About New York Subway Stripes
“I’ve spent a lot of time wandering around the streets, looking for great pictures as they happen. Here in New York, subways are like underground streets. The platforms are sidewalks. You can really see a lot of different things.” — Deborah Julian
New York Subway Stripes catches the subterranean geometry in a human way. The grit and grime of a subway station is anchored by a woman, twisted with stress or discomfort, whose striped purse contrasts with the subways industrial designs. Tension of the underground in New York, where New Yorkers confront all the noise and filth a century’s worth of continuous use has left them, comes off as a kind of theme.
