About Deborah Julian’s Venice Italy Waterfront Fine Art Print…
“Imagine yourself, walking toward St. Marks Square, maybe stopping for a cappuccino, pausing to listen at the church where Vivaldi composed concertos. That’s how I felt. Knowing Venice’s history, that it’s been a lot like this for hundreds of years, made it feel like stepping back in time.” —Fine Art Photographer Deborah Julian
Venice, Italy, is patched together from 118 small islands that serve as invisible foundations for massive wooden platforms on which the city’s buildings are built. On the waterfront, you can see how the growing city was extended to provide working docks for commerce and war. Now, more likely to provide walking space for tourists, the broad walkway takes you up steps and over the canals connecting to the lagoon.

Questions or comments on Venice Italy Waterfront Fine Art Print
Antonio Vivaldi, the Red Priest and most admired violin virtuoso of the Baroque era, walked here a thousand times as master violinist for a church you walk by. Lorenzo De Ponte, Mozart’s librettist, was run out of town because his sexual escapades were too much even for the city know for revelry.
Marco Polo? He walked here too – as a working man and on his way to prison where his stories about exploring his way to China were invented.
So much history too place here, it’s nearly a miracle that the place remains as much intact as it was in the days of Vivaldi, de Ponte and Polo.
