Here’s My Complaint: A Roosevelt Island How-To Guide

Months before, a Daily News headline, Ford to City: Drop Dead, marked the pit of New York’s free fall.

There was nowhere to go but up, and one of first steps out of the urban cellar was Roosevelt Island.

Built on a two-mile long strip of Manhattan schist, this New York City neighborhood in the East River is as distinctive as any, and its need for reliable local information is even more unique.

The Roosevelt Island News aligns with the only local newspaper serving our community. See the Roosevelt Island Daily for events, news, calendars and more.

Next Steps…

Keeping to our ideals is a greater struggle now than ever before. A neighborhood built on economic diversity battles gentrification. New market rate housing threatens to topple unity.

Balance between ideals and reality is hard to find, and political power is held by invisible string pullers in Albany.

We started the Roosevelt Island Daily as an independent source for news and opinion. Now, we take it a step farther.

Roosevelt Island News @ Assorted Ideas mixes local stories into a wider framework. We hope you enjoy the variety and range you find here..

  1. There was no red bus to NYC at 3PM yesterday and I was told that the drivers were taking an hour break.

    • Holiday weekend, and maybe while the cat’s away… Maybe they got hung up with rerouting to 2nd Avenue. But anyway, my wife’s ran into gaps, many times, sometimes in bad weather…

  2. Hi David, now that they are allowing people older than 75 to get the vaccine I would like Dr. Resnick to have the opportunity of distributing it. He is my doctor and he has lots of elderly patients who are now eligible for the vaccine. Is there anything you can do to publicize the fact that the vaccine should be distributed here on the island at Dr. Resnick’s office? I have called Ben Kallos and they said they would work on it. But you know how that goes. Please, Dave, see what you can do. Thank you.

  3. A friend registered with Walgreens and this morning had an e-mail me offering them 42 time slots for a vaccination on Friday. Lots of other locations were listed. It is so frustrating since if you go on line, there are not appointments available.

My suggestion is to register with the Pharmacy website and then hope to hear from them.

  4. Hello David. My question is not vaccine related. Is the lobster truck still scheduled to be at the tram today? If so, what are the hours?
Tis a shame they , evidently, cannot be on Main Street or the Church plaza.

    • According to RIOC: “Monday, February 15th, Cousins Maine Lobster food truck is coming back to Roosevelt Island! The food truck will be located at Tram Plaza, from 12 PM – 8 PM.” Too bad it’s not before noon, too, but it looks like they limit to 8 hours.

      Enjoy.

  5. Regarding the Bike Ramp – if RIOC can get the money to build the ramp, perhaps they should consider using it for what I think would prove to be a less costly option, and repair (replace) the Motorgate escalator which was originally designed to give pedestrians and bicyclists direct access to the bridge.

    • It makes good sense, Ed, and it’s been there as an option for years. Unfortunately, however, several RIOC administrations have shown no taste for it, which makes you wonder if safety is really the issue here. With all the questionable behavior going on, what’s really going on here? And who’s going to bother looking into it?
